2008 LAS Annual Meeting

LAS 2008 Annual Meeting Information:

The Louisiana Archaeological Society will hold its 2008 annual meeting over the weekend of Feb 8-10 in Metairie, just west of New Orleans. The meeting will take place the weekend immediately following Mardi Gras (Feb 5) and the first weekend after the Super Bowl (Feb 3). Easily reached from both I-10 and I-12, the location will be the Marriott Lakeway at the foot of the Causeway that crosses Lake Pontchartrain. The hotel is a high rise that overlooks the vast expanse of the lake to its north and provides a view of the New Orleans skyline to its east. The hotel has an attached garage that makes parking easy and is offering reduced rates because of the slow weekend after Mardi Gras.

The Marriott Lakeway hotel's web page gives full information about the hotel. Click "Maps & Transportation" on the left side of the hotel's web page for a map. Note: the hotel is nonsmoking.

On Sunday, we hope to offer an opportunity to visit parts of New Orleans that were impacted by the flooding that occurred following Katrina. The theme of the meeting will generally be related to the effect of floods on the archaeological record, but papers will not be limited to this subject.

Mark your calendars now and plan to participate in a meeting that should be both interesting and informative. Come a few days early or stay a few days afterward to explore New Orleans on your own. Use this meeting as an opportunity to revisit a city that has been drastically changed.

Donations for the silent auction and papers for the conference are needed.

Papers can be submitted to Chip McGimsey by clicking below. Please include a title, abstract, and your name and affiliation. Submissions can be in any standard word-processing software. For submissions or if you have any questions, please contact Chip at mcgimsey@louisiana.edu
